What are “real” foods?
This may seem like a silly question but if you think about it the answer may not always be clear. A bowl of oatmeal (not the instant kind) is real food but a bowl of the sugary, low-fiber, fluffy cereal that most people eat is not. Look at the ingredients on a box of the sugary cereal. Are these things you really want to put into your body? I hope not.
To get a better handle on the healthy, real food way of eating, think about how much the food changes before it gets to you. An apple is exactly the same when it gets to you as it was when it was picked from the tree. A potato is exactly the same as when it was dug up from the ground. Are you getting the idea? The fewer steps the better. The fewer ingredients on the box the better.

It’s so easy to grab a bag of chips or stop by the drive-thru to pick up something to eat. We all lead such busy lives that people have forgotten how to really prepare a healthy meal. This is a big reason for the increasing numbers of overweight and obese people. Our bodies are not getting the vitamins, minerals and all the other nutrients they need when we eat processed foods.
Our bodies were created to run on real foods. Our bodies need real foods to be healthy and return to a normal weight. The really great thing about eating healthy is that the longer you eat this way the more processed foods lose their appeal. Try having a piece of fruit for a snack. This is a good place to start.
